Power Rangers Battle for the Grid Super Edition review/second look

It has been about two since the release of Power Rangers Battle for the Grid and since then the game has gained quite the following. From having its very own eSports league to the multiple DLC/season character packs, gamers seem to be enjoying the game, And with this success comes a complete edition. A “super” edition per se. Taking a cue from Street Fighter II and its many, many versions, developers nWay have released an updated version of the game titled Power Rangers Battle for the Grid Super Edition. How super is it? Let’s find out.

For the most part Battle for the Grid Super Edition plays the same as the original, just that now all of the DLC characters/skins (including two new characters, more on them in a bit) added into the game in one package. This “super” edition of the game also has the cumulative patches and balances made when new characters were being released. The fighting mechanics are still solid and fun, even though expert players will combo stun you into a corner online. But that’s more on the skill of the player.

Speaking of the DLC characters, in addition to the season one to three character packs two new additional characters have been added into this edition of the game. Ryu and Chun Li from Street Fighter join the roster as the Crimson Hawk Ranger and the Blue Phoenix Ranger. It really makes sense to have two of the most iconic Street Fighter characters in the game since 90’s kids also grew up with Street Fighter II. The pair also have alternate outfits that has them dressed in 90’s themed clothes.

There are some issues that I have with the game, though these are just nitpicking as this edition of Battle of the Grid almost solves all of the original version’s flaws. For one I am still a bit upset at the roster line up, but then again I did stop watching right around Power Rangers in Space. There’s still no actual Zord battles and even though the number of game modes is still small, at least they are full and complete. All in all this is how the game should have been released, at least in terms of game modes working and intact. There is still more room to improve in terms of adding more characters, but as of right now and with all of the fixes and improvements made, Power Rangers Battle for the Grid Super Edition is the superior version of the game and is a must have for fans of the Power Rangers.
