Anime Review: Ouran High School Host Club

Kon’nichiwa fellow gamers, geeks, and nerds. It’s Animonday/Movie Monday! Today I’m going to be covering an anime called Ouran High School Host Club. Now I caught it via Netflix where they show the anime in both English and Japanese audio and subtitles, but the series began as a manga by Bisco Hatori.

In the series both animated and manga we follow young Haruhi Fujioka who attends the prestigious and all around wealthy Ouran High School aptly located in Bunkyo, Tokyo on a scholarship. Looking for some peace and quiet to study Haruhi stumbles across the Third Music Room. This happens to be the place where the Ouran Academy Host Club where six male students gather to entertain their female “clients”. During their initial encounter, Haruhi accidentally knocks over an 8,000,000 ($80,000 U.S.D) yen vase. Since Haruhi can’t pay this money officially vase is paid off in full.

Initially Haruhi is hired as an errand boy. Once the club sees how well the clients take to Haruhi they then promote her to a full time host. That’s right HER. Haruhi’s short hair, slouchy attire, and gender-ambiguous face cause her to be mistaken for a boy. The member of the club each discover Haruhi’s true gender one by one thus agreeing to keep her gender a secret.

I absolutely love this anime! Why? Because it shows gender neutral characters and acceptance. My fans and followers should know I am an advent supporter of the LGBT community. Not only am I a supporter but I’m part of it as well. This anime is an amazing story of acceptance, love, friendship, and team work.

Overall this show gets a 9/10 from me. If ever they release more episodes then this anime gets a 10/10. Until then check this show out and enjoy!! Until next time guys! Syonara!
