Fubuki ~Zero in on Holoearth~ stars Shirakami Fubuki, a member of Hololive’s first generation of VTubers. The game take place in the world’s version of Japan called Yamato. During Fubuki’s livestream, mysterious portals appear unleashing waves of demons infesting the land. This evil presence threatens to not only destroy the land of Yamato but as well as the Multiverse. So it is up to Fubuki to slay these demons with her sword Murasanenaru and cleans the Multiverse. Now I’ll be honest, I’m not too familiar with the story and lore that the game pulls from, as well as Fubuki herself and the other members of Hololive that make appearances in the game. However, for diehard fans of Hololive and the source media that it is pulling from Hololive Alteritive, they will appreciate and love all of the reference to the source media as well as the various appearances of other Hololive members.
The gameplay for Fubuki ~Zero in on Holoearth~ is a hack n slash side scroller that takes inspiration from games such as the Mega Man X and Mega Man Zero/ZX games. Fubuki has a basic slash attack that she can charge up and send a projectile to enemies. She also has a a jumping slash as well as a double jump spinning slash. Much like the Mega Man series, once Fubuki defeats the stage boss she is able to use their power as a subweapon for herself. The gameplay itself is fast pace and frantic as with enemies filling the screen with attacks. Luckily some of the attacks they shoot out can be destroyed with a slash of Fubuki’s blade. However that is not the case for all projectiles. In the more difficult levels, it feels more like a bullet hell shooter.
Gameplay isnt the only thing that Fubuki ~Zero in on Holoearth~ takes inspiration from the Mega Man series. The pixel art style of the game takes a lot of inspiration from the Mega Man games, to be more specific the Mega Man Zero/ZX game series. The sprites are detailed and very colorful and look amazing in motion. The backdrop are just as amazing and are vary detailed. As for the music its upbeat, matching the feel and the vibe of the levels.
There is really only one set back to the whole game and that is that Fubuki ~Zero in on Holoearth~ is short. For me personally it only took a couple of hours to be the whole game, just going through all six stages. Regardless it is a fun and entertaining romp for both fans of HoloLive and fans of these styles of games.
