While not as mainstream as the likes of Final Fantasy, Falcom has a very loyal following and fan base with the Ys series. It has been a while since the reveal of Ys VIII back in 2014 and while we won’t see that game released until sometime next year, Falcom has announced during the Playstation Experience 2016 keynote conference that there will be a Ys game coming to the PS4 and Vita in February 2017. That game is Ys Origin.
Originally released on PC through Steam and GOG, Ys Origins is a prequel to the Ys series which takes place 700 years before Ys I. The game tells much of the backstory of Ys, Darm Tower, the Black Pearl, the twin goddesses, and the six priests. Here’s the trailer that was shown during the keynote this past weekend:
Ys Origin is set to release February 21, 2017.
