Namco Bandai to localize Short Peace and Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day

Namco Bandai is bringing over the anime video game hybrid blue ray, Short Peace/Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day to the West.

Anime/video game hybrid blue rays are a common practice in Japan, but not so much in the West. The first time Westerners have been exposed to a movie/video game hybrid was with Tekken Hybrid for the PS3. It came with the animated movie Tekken Blood Vengeance and a HD conversion of Tekken Tag Tournament. They also did it with two of the Macross Frontier movies. And now they have teamed up Studio Sunrise to bring over to the West an anime anthology movie called Short Peace. Let’s look at the trailer first and I’ll explain what Short Peace is and what game will be packed in it:

First let’s start with Short Peace. Short Peace is an anthology film that has four different anime shorts directed by different people. One of those directors is the legendary director Katsuhiro Otomo, the man who created/directed Akira and Steamboy. His short Combustible was nominated for best short in the 2013 Academy Awards. Another notable name is is Hajime Katoki of the studio Sunrise, home to the Gundam franchise. I believe this is his first time  directing since he is mostly known for designing and redesigning Gundam mechs.

The fifth piece of Short Peace is the video game portion of the blue ray and was produced by Suda51 in cooperation with Crispy’s, the developer of Tokyo Jungle. The game is called Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day. The game is an action side scroller and stars Ranko Tsukigime. During the day she is your average, run of the mill school girl. She goes to school hangs out with her friends and is liked by all. But at night she is deadly assassin who always kills her marks. During one hit, an demonic enemy organization comes out of the shadows and threatens to kill her and her friends. The game will put players’ platforming skills to the test as she get’s chased by everything from demons to a giant fluffy yet killer pomeranian.

The game will be released sometime in Spring 2014. Personally I can’t wait.
